How to Apply for a Machine Readable Passport in Bangladesh?

Isn't it cool that you can have a Machine Readable Passport (MRP) in Bangladesh now? As per the latest circular (dated 18 May 2010) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Bangladesh, following fees will be applicable for a new (manual) passport/renewal of an existing passport, till the implementation of Digital Passport in Missions abroad:

New Passport (three years validity):
Fee- USD 99.00.



(Please also note that the passports which have already been issued with one year validity from 01 April 2010 can be extended for a further period of two years by paying USD 66.00).

The following sections provide guidelines on how to apply for a passport. Please note that the guidelines provided in this page are indicative. The Consulate General reserves the right to request for any additional documents at any stage for scrutiny by the Consular Officer before rendering any service.

Issuance of a passport against expired (10 years) /page exhausted /damaged passport

The holder of a passport may apply for issuance of a new passport in case of the following:

* If the existing passport has completed 10 years of validity, or
* The existing passport will complete 10 years in the next six months, or
* The pages of the passport have been exhausted due to use, or
* The passport has only 3 pages left, or
* The passport has been damaged partially or fully.

The following documents are required to be submitted:

1. Completed Passport Application Form in duplicate. Application forms must be filled in fully, legibly and accurately (preferably typed or filled in with a computer). The form must be signed at all requested places. Incomplete application form will not be processed.
2. 4 (four) 40mmx50mm / passport size photographs. (two photographs on each of the application forms)
3. Passport Processing Fees in one of the accepted methods of payment.
4. Existing passport (in original) [Please note that the existing passport will be attached (stapled) with the newly issued passport, which will have reference of the existing passport. The holder should not separate the booklets]
5. In case of a female applicant, who wishes to replace father's name with husband's name (mentioned at Sl. 9 in the application form), the applicant should provide a copy of her marriage certificate.
