How to Apply for a USA or UK Visa from Bangladesh

We all dream to live in a better place where there are better facilities, more money, more fun and more opportunities. America and England could be the best choices for Bangladeshis or citizens of any other countries for emigrating to. However, most of the time, we don't know where to begin with. So, if you're thinking about emigrating to USA or UK please follow the steps below. In my next article, I'll describe how to apply for work permit for USA. So, stay in touch...

How to Apply for a USA Visa from Bangladesh or from any other country

Step 1: Call the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) office nearest you. The number will be listed in the government section of your phone book. If you do not live in the United States, call the nearest American embassy or consulate INS office.

Step 2: Ask for all application documents for the visa you need. They will be sent to you.

Step 3: Ask if you will need a U.S. sponsor - a U.S. resident who will take financial responsibility for you, should you not be able to support yourself. If so, begin your search for a sponsor immediately.

Step 4: Fill out the preliminary application fully and neatly, and mail it back for processing, along with any photos, documents, and fees. Send by registered mail, and send only copies of documents (not the originals), unless otherwise requested.

Step 5: Deliver all completed documents in person to save time and to find out whether your application is complete.

Step 6: Obtain a second packet, depending on your residence status and visa, if your first packet was accepted.

Step 7: Be prepared to have documents officially translated, if they are not already in English.

Step 8: Contact your sponsor immediately (if you need one), and send him or her the necessary documents via registered mail. Have documents sent back express mail or registered mail.

Step 9: Obtain all completed documents and call the INS for an interview/filing appointment, and perhaps a physical exam. This process can take two days and must be completed in person. You will be informed at that time whether you will be given a visa.

How to apply for your UK Visa from Bangladesh or from any other country

Step 1: Determine the kind of UK Visa or Permit, if any, for which you are eligible to apply. This is an important step and you can find information to help you with this question on the British Government’s official visa and work permit information sites.

Step 2: Once you know which visa you would like to apply for, you will need to contact your nearest British High Commission, Consulate or Embassy and ask to have the appropriate application forms sent to you, or you can often download these forms quickly and easily from their websites. You can also apply for some visas online. Decide whether you would like to use a visa representative to assist you with your application. See our Visa FAQs for more information about using a visa representative.

Step 3: Read through the forms carefully to ensure you qualify and to see what documents you will need to supply. Fill out the forms completely and return to the British High Commission or Consulate in your country with all of the information and supporting documentation they have requested. If you have questions about filling out the forms, you should contact the British High Commission or Consulate on the number provided on your UK visa application forms. When should I apply?

Step 4: You will have to visit your nearest UK visa application centre to have your biometric information recorded (10-digit finger scans and a digital photograph). Your visa application will not be processed until you have provided the necessary biometric information.

Step 5: Wait for written confirmation of your successful UK Visa application from the British High Commission or Consulate to which you applied. If there are any problems they will contact you.

Step 6: If you are planning to work in the UK and have not already created a UK file online with WORKgateways – you can do so now! Apply for jobs and to agencies to start your UK job search. Be sure to upload your resume and keep your file updated as your travel plans become clear. Have a great time in the UK! If you are just “thinking about going” you can subscribe to our e-newsletter.
