Taj Bawdi, Bijapur

Taj Bawdi constructed in 1620, is one of the interesting sights in Bijapur (State: Karnataka). Ruler Ibrahim Adil Shah built this well in honor of his queen Taj Sultana.

It measures 223 sq feet and 52 feet deep. The entrance to the well has a 35 feet span majestic arch and is flanked by two octagonal towers. On the eastern and western sides of the tower there were the rest houses for the tired travelers. Beyond the archway is a small platform and a flights of stairs on either sides of the platform leads one to the water.

This place is not maintained that well, and if not taken care soon will be ruins. The landscape of Bijapur is full of historic monuments. Every inch of a place here has a tale of its own to depict. It is impossible to maintain them, unless the people themselves take the initiative.

Gitgit Waterfall

Gitgit WaterfallA visit to the waterfall at Gitgit should be on every tourist’s list. It is about nine kilometres from Singaraja towards the south. Although the winding road is steep and you have to walk the last part, it is accessible by car or motorbike. You can park your vehicle at a parking lot on the Denpasar to Singaraja road from where you can see the waterfall.
Gitgit WaterfallTo get closer, you will need to walk. The path can be considered in two halves. The first part is a stepped concrete path bordered by trees and shrubs on one side and a myriad of colourful shops on the other. Halfway along the scene changes and on both sides you can see coffee and clove trees. It is a refreshing experience to walk in this quiet area where the birds take turns to sing. The air is cool and gradually gets colder a you approach the waterfall. A short distance from the waterfall, the fine water spray will cool your body. Sometimes the atmosphere will become misty. The waterfall is sixty metres high and as the water falls, it looks like white clouds falling down the mountain one after another. The falling water almost completely covers the rockface of the fall. If your camera is able, try taking some long exposure photographs.

Buleleng

BulelengBuleleng is a regency (kabupaten) of Bali, Indonesia. It has an area of 1,365.88 km2 and population of 577,644 (1999). Its regency seat is Singaraja.
Buleleng was founded as a kingdom by Gusti Panji Sakti, who ruled c. 1660-c. 1700. He is commemorated as a heroic ancestor-figure who expanded the power of Buleleng to Blambangan on East Java.[1] The kingdom was weakened during his successors, and fell under the suzerainty of the neighbouring Karangasem kingdom in the second half of the eighteenth century. It was headed by an autonomous branch of the Karangasem Dynasty in 1806-1849. The Dutch colonial power attacked Buleleng in 1846, 1848 and 1849, and defeated it on the last occasion.[2] Buleleng was incorporated in the Dutch colonial system and lost its autonomy in 1882. In 1929 a descendant of Gusti Panji Sakti, the renowned scholar Gusti Putu Jelantik, was appointed regent by the Dutch. He died during the Japanese occupation of Indonesia. His son and successor was the well-known novelist Anak Agung Nyoman Panji Tisna (r. 1944-1948). In 1949-50 Buleleng, like the rest of Bali, was incorporated in the unitary republic of Indonesia.
Buleleng
Buleleng Regency
Singaraja is the capital city of this region and Singaraja was also as the capital city of
Bali Province before moving to Denpasar in 1958 and remain until now. Most of the north coast falls under the regency of Buleleng. During the mid 1800s the Dutch defeated Buleleng in their first attempt to take Bali, making Singaraja the Island’s first capital, as evident in the abundance of colonial architecture that remains standing there to this day.

Buddhist temple located at Borobudur, Magelang, Central Java

Borobudur is the name of a Buddhist temple located at Borobudur, Magelang, Central Java. The location of the temple is approximately 100 km southwest of Semarang and 40 km northwest of Yogyakarta. This temple was founded by the Mahayana Buddhists around the year 800 AD the dynasty during the reign of Syailendra. In ethnic Tionghoa, this temple is also called 婆罗 浮屠 (Hanyu Pinyin: po luo fu tu)

Many theories attempt to explain the name of this temple. One of them states that the name is probably derived from the word Sambharabhudhara, which means "mountain" (bhudara) where the slopes situated terraces. In addition there are some other folk etymology. Suppose that the word comes from the greeting Borobudur "the Buddha" who due to sound shifts to Borobudur. Another explanation is that the name derives from two words "coal" and "beduhur". The word supposedly comes from the embers of the monastery, while there is also another explanation where the coal comes from Sanskrit which means temple or monastery complex and beduhur meaning is "high", or to remind the Balinese language means "above". So the point is a monastery or hostel located on high ground.

Historian J.G. de Casparis in his dissertation to obtain his doctorate in 1950 argued that Borobudur is a place of worship. Based on the inscriptions and Kahulunan Karangtengah, Casparis estimate the founder of Borobudur was named king of Mataram dynasty Syailendra Samaratungga, which they will build around the year 824 AD The giant new buildings can be completed at the time of her daughter, Queen Pramudawardhani. Borobudur Development estimated a half-century time-consuming. In the inscription Karangtengah also mentioned about the bestowal of land sima (tax-free land) by the CRI Kahulunan (Pramudawardhani) to maintain Kamūlān called Bhūmisambhāra. Kamūlān term itself comes from the first word that means place of origin, the sacred buildings to glorify the ancestors, the ancestors of the dynasty Sailendra possibility. Bhumi Sambhāra Casparis Bhudhāra estimates that in the Sanskrit language which means "Hill of the set of ten levels boddhisattwa virtue," was the original name of Borobudur.

Borobudur is a ten-story clearly illustrates the Mahayana school of philosophy. like a book, Borobudur described ten levels of Bodhisattva which must pass to reach the perfection of the Buddha. Kamadhatu symbolizes the foot of Borobudur, the world is still dominated by kama, or "low desire". This part is mostly covered by a pile of stone that allegedly made to strengthen the construction of temples. At the closed part of this additional structure there are 120 panels Kammawibhangga story. A small additional structure was set aside so people can still see the relief in this section.

Four floors with wall berelief on it by experts named Rupadhatu. The floor is rectangular. Rupadhatu is a world that has been able to free himself from passion, but still bound by the appearance and shape. This level represents the nature of that is, between the bottom and the nature of nature. In part this Rupadhatu Buddha statues there in the recesses of the wall above ballustrade or breezeway.

Starting the fifth to the seventh floor walls are not berelief. This level is called Arupadhatu (which means do not form or intangible). Circular floor plan. It represents a level of natural top, where the man was free from all desires and commitments shape and appearance, but have not reached nirvana. Buddha statues are placed in the stupa covered with holes as in a cage. From outside the statues were still dim.

The highest level that describes the lack of existence is symbolized in the form of the Stupa, the largest and highest. Stupa depicted plain without the holes. Within the biggest stupa of Buddha statue was ever found of an imperfect or unfinished also called Buddha, which disalahsangkakan as Adibuddha statue, but through further research, there never was a statue at the main stupa, statues were not completed was a mistake creators in the past. according to the belief that one statue in the drafting process was not allowed to be destroyed. Archaeological excavations carried out in the yard to find many statues of this temple like this.

Shivappa Nayaka Palace, Shimoga

In Shimoga (State: Karnataka) the fort originally had occupied around 200 acres of land. Of which now only 10 acres of land is occupied by fort area. Even though I could not see any fort walls, I did see a 16th century palace built by ruler Shivappa Nayak of Keladi Dynasty. This beautiful palace is situated on the banks of river Tunga in the old city. (Click on the images for bigger view)

This was much larger structure, of which currently
only the Durbar Hall survives the ravages of the war against Bahmani Kings. The Durbar Hall is built with wooden pillars giving an elevation of
almost twenty feet from the ground level.

The carved pillars and artificial roofs is made of teak and rosewood. The roof of the palace is covered with Mangalore tiles. The wooden staircase leads up to the first floor. And there is a projected wooden balcony in the central part.

There are beautiful floral carvings on the pillars and arches between the pillars.

The architecture of the palace is Indo-Saracenic where one can see elements of Rajput, Islamic styles. Today, this palace also serves as a museum for Archeological Survey of India (ASI). The palace is maintained by ASI and as of today no charge or ticket for visiting this elegant palace.

Oldest Christmas Tree Decoration at Riga Museum from November 18

Five hundred years ago some members of the Blackheads’ Society chose the tallest fir tree in the forest to publicly burn it and bring cheer to Rigaens. While they were looking for the best place for a huge campfire, local children found the tree and decorated it. Suprrised at the magnificent transformation, the Blackheads decided to lift the tree up on Town Hall Square. Now the memorial plaque is set up here and a new Christmas tree decorated every year.
Seven years ago a greyish glass ball with a metal hook, which Rigans used to decorate Christmas trees with 250 years ago, was found during archeological excavations in Old Town Rīga.
Along with the Christmas tree decoration, many other items, used for daily needs, were found at the archaeological site, for instance, leather footwear, knife sheaths, bags, harnesses, pieces of pipes, pieces of clothing, stained glass, etc.

From November 18, they will be on display at the Museum of the History of Rīga and Navigation:

I had the pleasure of traveling through the state of Tamil Nadu to see various places. I undertook a 8 day trip across the state. (Click on images for bigger view)

We started from Bangalore by a hired car and covered the following cities: Vellore, Tanjore, Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Chennai, Mamallapuram, Kancheepuram, Gangaikondacholapuram, Darasuram, Madurai, Trichi, Srirangam. I also covered the Pondicherry even though it is not part of the state as I had to pass through it.

Alpine Paradise

Human being is done this strange way that we understand what we love only when we leave it. Somebody calls it nostalgie. And it's normally about the places we know very well, places where we were born, where we passed many years of our lives.

I did not know this feeling for many years till I begin to visit St Petersburg. It will seem not normal maybe, but I had my first nostalgie feeling for this city that I did not know too much, honestly. It was like obsession.

Many of us, who lives in central and northern parts of Europe, have a precise idea of Paradise: palms, sandy beaches, light breeze... I promote Caribbean cruises and learn much about this part of the world now, so, I have to confess, I acquired this other obsession myself, too: I dream about a cruise on Carnival Magic or Norwegian Epic...

Or, contrary, we think that Paradise are those southern towns where we can walk near that warm sea under the (same :-(  ) palms...
Dreaming about an exotic destination? Booking Hotel before you leave is important to have serene vacation.

Горы Латтари С Набережной Салерно

Only when we have to live far from our cold and not so shiny motherland for much time, we understand that the best and the most rich nature is there; that the best "palm" is a spruce; and that Baltic (etc) sea is not worse than southern seas. The sun is mild and not merciless. And the colors are more interesting there. Do you agree that the Paradise pictures are these in the bottom and not those over here?
